RTCZ, in partnership with the Zambian Ministry of Health and ZNPHI, developed the Cholera Dashboard to enhance epidemic surveillance and response through spatial data visualization. The objective was to transform previously static and hard-to-interpret tabular data into dynamic, user-friendly maps showing cholera distribution, prevalence, case fatality ratios, and trends at both provincial and national levels. At its peak, the dashboard served over 5,000 weekly users, including health officials, analysts, and community leaders, and indirectly benefited more than 3 million Zambians in cholera-prone areas such as Lusaka’s urban and peri-urban communities, fishing zones, and schools. The system improved surveillance accuracy, enabled rapid hotspot identification, and supported targeted interventions like vaccination drives and water treatment distribution. By making complex data accessible to the public, media, and researchers, the dashboard promoted transparency and strengthened trust in Zambia’s epidemic response.
