In August 2020, RTCZ played a central role in scoping, designing, and deploying a GIS-driven COVID-19 case management system that supported Zambia’s pandemic response through geo-mapping of cases, hotspot identification, intervention planning, and strengthened surveillance. The system was officially launched on 25th September 2020 by the Minister of Health and has since served as the authoritative source of COVID-19 information for the country. In late 2021, RTCZ upgraded the dashboard to integrate vaccination data, enabling real-time monitoring of vaccine uptake and guiding targeted campaigns in areas with low coverage. The dashboards reached millions of Zambians nationwide, including policymakers, frontline health workers, researchers, media, and the general public, providing timely and transparent updates on cases, recoveries, fatalities, and vaccination progress.
