The Multi-Month Dispensing Pilot Study (MMSD) aimed to evaluate the impact of providing multi-month supplies of antiretroviral therapy (ART) on patient retention and viral load suppression across 15 high-volume health facilities in Kabwe, Kitwe, and Ndola districts.

The study generated critical evidence to guide the National AIDS Program in adopting and integrating multi-month dispensing into national treatment guidelines. It also assessed health system readiness and operational requirements such as forecasting and supply chain support needed for successful implementation. Furthermore, the study addressed key scientific questions, including how to monitor and evaluate adherence, retention in care, and resource utilization when comparing standard three-month dispensing with extended six-month ART dispensing models.
