RTCZ, implementing the Action HIV program, has successfully spearheaded a significant expansion of HIV prevention and care services, increasing its support from 78% to 98% of health facilities across Northern, Muchinga, and Luapula provinces. This strategic initiative has led to remarkable growth, with patient numbers (TX_CURR) at newly supported sites and TA facilities, increasing by 49% and 79%, respectively. To achieve this, the program
implemented a robust strategy that included supplementing the government’s efforts by employing essential health care workers under the ART department and building capacity in healthcare workers under the Ministry of Health. This was complemented by the procurement and distribution of essential resources, including over 450 computers to enhance patient data management via SmartCare, 45 vehicles, and 92 motorbikes to ensure a reliable sample courier system. Furthermore, the program deployed innovative approaches, such as a “Mini Surge” plan to rapidly close service delivery gaps and an integrated outreach strategy to maximize community engagement. The success of this
initiative underscores the power of partnerships and our commitment to not only expand services but also to empower local health systems by ensuring a lasting, sustainable impact in the communities we serve.
